At the age of six, Alexandria Loutitt became obsessed with the sport of ski jumping after watching the 2010 Winter Games in Vancouver and begged her parents to let her try the sport. Initially hesitant to let her try, her parents finally relented and she performed her first jump at age nine. She was instantly hooked.
Inspired by Japanese ski jumper Sara Takahashi for paving the way for the next generation, Alexandria attended the National Sports School in Calgary, Alberta, which allowed her to spend several months a year in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, one of Germany’s most prominent destinations for winter sports.
The training quickly paid off as Alexandria joined the Canadian national team and made her international debut when she was just 15 in 2019. The following year she made her World Cup debut in the women’s team event in Ljubno, Slovenia, and shortly thereafter competed at her first FIS Junior World Championships.
In 2021, Alexandria made her senior debut at the FIS World Championships and competed in numerous Continental Cup events as she began to find her feet at elite level. After a series of impressive performances, she secured a place on the Canadian team for the 2022 Games in Beijing, China, and helped to secure a bronze medal in the mixed team competition. She also won bronze at the 2022 Nordic Junior World Ski Championships in the normal hill event.
The 2023 season would prove to be a breakout year for Alexandria as she secured her first World Cup victory in Zaō, Japan. This was followed by victory in the Junior World Championships as she claimed gold in the normall hill event. She then became the first-ever Canadian ski jumping world champion, winning the women's large hill event at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships.
Alexandria also took part in her first-ever ski-flying event in 2023 and set a new world record of 222 metres during a training run, though this mark has now been surpassed.
With so much achieved already in her short career, it seems as though Alexandria will be setting more records and adding plenty more medals to her collection for many more years to come.
