Born and raised in the Remiremont area of eastern Vosges in France, slalom master Clément Noël is one of the hottest properties of the alpine skiing scene.
World Cup debut
Having moved to Val d’Isere and joined the France B team in 2015, aged just 18, Clément debuted at World Cup level in Finland in 2016. The following year, he scored his first World Cup points by finishing 20th in the slalom at Val d'Isere, having become French slalom champion earlier in the season.
Clément's rise to the top was swift and he achieved his first top 10 World Cup finish in January 2018 in Kitzbühel, again in the slalom, taking eighth place on the Hahnenkamm.
In February 2018, he became Junior World Champion in slalom, then went on to compete at that year's Winter Games in Pyeongchang, narrowly missing out on a podium spot after finishing fourth in the slalom.
First podium sparks winning spree
In January 2019, Clément secured his maiden podium at World Cup level with a second place in Adelboden, which was followed up by his first victory a week later in Wengen when he beat Austrian legend Marcel Hirscher into third place in the slalom.
That milestone was backed up the very next week in Kitzbühel, where Clément again got the better of Hirscher by taking first place from the Austrian. He then went on a serious tear, winning no less than four World Cup slalom races and scoring another three podium finishes through to the end of the 2019–20 season.
The 2020–21 season gave Clément even more opportunities to shine with four podium finishes – two of those being first place. Then, in 2022, he put down a stunning second run to win slalom gold in Beijing, China.
He added seven incredible podium finishes to his records during the 2023-24 season before scoring four slalom victories during the 2024–25 series, including during the season's biggest weekend in Kitzbühel, Austria.
A proud moment despite defeat
After claiming a World Cup victory in early 2026, Clément then had the privilege of being the French flagbearer at the Winter Games opening ceremony. He was unable to defend his gold medal, however, following a crash on his second run in Italy.
Despite the heartache, Clément is looking ahead, not back: "I’m proud to have represented France at the Olympic Games for the third time, proud to have had the honour of carrying the French flag, and proud of the journey that brought me here," he said. "Now it’s time to look ahead."
