A regular jam session for the Pune band ‘Ashwamedh’ comprises of belting out hard rock in Hindi. Keeping up with the upsurge of new bands dishing out music in their regional vernacular, Ashwamedh has risen to popularity in a short time.
Ashwamedh’s conception was based on the premises of redefining the ‘boundaries’ of Post Hard Rock Hindi music. Before you head out to check their music, they leave you with a warning: “Shattered pre-defined notions of Hindi Rock are a collateral, for which we take full responsibility”.
Well, tall claims or epic stuff? You decide: http://www.reverbnation.com/ashwamedh.
We had a brief talk with Swatantra, the lead guitarist of the band.
Q. Hindi rock. Why Hindi?
A: I guess we are most expressive in Hindi. The lyrics flow well and there is a bout of excitement in making rock music in Hindi.
Q. Is it easy making people rock to Hindi songs?
A: We don’t really stick to one genre. We also experiment with a heady mix of Indian classical, Funk and Metal. It keeps the tempo high and people grooving!
Q. When was your first gig and how was the reception?
A: Our first gig was when we opened for Agnee! It was brilliant. We were skeptical about how people would receive our music, but it was amazing!
Q. Lastly, Ashwamedh should play on the #RedBullTourBus because?
A: Because you cannot be missing out on this unique a twist to Hindi music!
