Bhavishyavani Future Soundz has been Mumbai’s favourite DJ collective for two decades. They helped create the city’s underground music scene from scratch, defining Mumbai’s nightlife through their crazy parties and artworks.
Now, as they complete 20 years of influencing Mumbai’s electronic scene, a celebration gig is on the cards.
Red Bull Music Presents 20 Years of Bhavishyavani Future Soundz is a celebration of India’s first mixed media electronic arts collective, detailing their journey over 20 years, impact on Mumbai and India’s nightlife scene, and a massive celebration gig by core members of the crew.
Insat, MMAT, Loopkin, Masta Justy and Spacejams will play sets undefined by conventional genre labels; a concept Bhavishyavani Future Soundz has promoted over two decades through their parties. From electro and jungle to techno and drum & bass, the sound will be varied and imaginative, just as their parties have been for two decades.
In preparation for the gig, Bhavishyavani core members Tejas Mangeshkar (aka Mr Tee) and Mathieu Josso (aka MMAT) put down a playlist of 20 songs – one for each year of Bhavishyavani – with details on why they picked that song.
Here is part two of 20 songs for 20 years of Bhavishyavani Future Soundz:

2009: “Hard To Find” by Peter Kruder

Listening to this always brings up memories of Peter Kruder dropping the track at our first Sundown party. Peter left the track behind with us along with his headphone. We hammered this across town, and it’s still played once in a while.

2010: “Ikarius” by dOP

Obviously we had to select a track from our brothers from dOP who have kept coming back since their first show at Sundown. Many hits to choose from but that deep roller is a favourite.

2011: “Can't Buy Love” by Aquarius Heaven

This was released on the Wolf + Lamb imprint, who had visited our Sundown party the previous year. Brian (aka Aquarius Heaven) would visit us few years later. This was a classic at Zenzi parties.

2012: “The Bells” by Jeff Mills

That year the whole crew went to the Movement Festival in Detroit which had a final day closing set by the wizard aka Jeff Mills. We would play this to put lost psy kids back on the right track in the early 2000s.

2013: “Formenverwandler” by Der Zyklus

A Drexciya-esque classic under another moniker. We discovered this initially in Richie Hawtin’s DE9: Closer to the Edit in the early 2000s.

2014: “Time” by Pachanga Boys

Magic closing track of the Bha crew’s sunrise set at Magnetic Fields.

2015: “Silent Dust” by Konrad Black

Superb track from Todd (aka Konrad Black) that he released after a long hiatus. The same year we finally managed to bring him to play at the infamous Blackout party at Cafe Nemo. He was to be our first guest along with Mathew Jonson for the Sundown party but had to cancel last minute

2016: “Transient” by Mr G

Masterpiece from Mr G, released on our friend, D'Julz label Bass Culture. Instant classic. We are grateful to have booked D'Julz a couple of times along the years, and also that he added us to his label promo list.

2017: “Under the Radar (Deadbeat Rmx)” by Mike Shannon

Scott (Deadbeat) dropped this when he came to visit us last time. Such a beauty of a remix of another friend Mike Shannon.

2018: “Madfingers Part 1” by MMAT, Madfinger Bruceleers

A tribute track done with some leftover recordings of Karan “Madfingers” Joseph.
