Games
Little more, little less, who’s willing to wait and guess.
When Irrational Games, the makers of Bioshock decided to shut down, we were all wondering if that’s the last we’d ever see of the series. It’s been 7 years since the game was first released and like most nostalgic lovers of classics, some have decided to shape it into a new face for the current generation of gamers. Bioshock is now to be a part of the iOS platform – this marriage brought together by 2K games, makers of Borderlands, NBA2K and Civilisation series.
Compatible with the iPad 4, iPad Mini 2, iPad Air and also the iPhone 5, 5S and 5C, Bioshock iOS is to be a freemium release with no additional micro-transactions of the kind. What we don’t know of yet is their official release date, however, some folks online were invited for a hands-on experience. Firstly, there’s a lot of pressure to recreate one of the highest-rated games on the last console generation, but on a little screen, a veteran nostalgic will find their way no-problem! While some textures look fantastic and the general gloom gives a nudge to fond memories, some graphical compromises are evident – texture levels differ in places, it seems and certain effects do look of poor quality.
Touch controls have been on the plus side again, since they seem easy to master, while there are also contextual command controls such as gathering loot from a corpse or a crate. Perfection is still a few steps away, because the chances of being swamped with too many enemies is as good as being forced to chew more than you can swallow – health bars need to loosen up a bit.
All in all, that’s still talk off the internet but there was a mention of an in-game artwork that 2K uploaded recently for Bioshock 1 location Eve’s Garden, with the words “Come bite the Apple” – hinting that their busy biting at the new version of Apple devices!
