Gaming
Dota 2 is a fast-paced game with so many combinations that every matchup is a different experience. While players make the game an exciting spectator sport, the effort of casters bring it to life for those watching in the stands.
In simple terms, casters are the commentators of the game. They help create context and explain what goes on, making it easy for everyone to follow.
Here are some of the best Dota 2 casters that have enriched the game.
Tobi “Tobiwan” Dawson
Tobiwan brings hype to the game unlike any other caster. The 33 year-old Australian was co-founder and caster for joinDOTA, a portal dedicated to Dota 2 broadcast and communities. Tobiwan left the team at the start of 2018 to work as a freelancer. He cast five Majors in the 2017-18 Dota Pro Circuit, finishing up with The International 2018.
He has been a part of the Dota 2 scene for nearly a decade after trying out many games, including Call of Duty, Heroes of Newerth, StarCraft, and more. Tobiwan is also notoriously famous for lending his voice to numerous hilarious moments that are etched in the memory of every Dota 2 enthusiast.
Austin “Capitalist” Walsh
An independent caster, Capitalist began his career with Heroes of Newerth. He made his foray in Dota 2 casting alongside Tobiwan and became part of the joinDOTA casting studio in November 2013. He quickly made a name for himself as a prominent figure in the Dota 2 scene and received an invite to join the caster’s desk at The International 2014. He has been a part of every International since.
Capitalist has also been part of semi-professional teams such as Gamer University and Vegetables Esports Club. He is known for his calm and collected approach to casting. He may not hype up the game as other casters do but his analysis is certainly respected.
Owen “ODPixel” Davies
ODPixel is extremely popular for his antics and highly energetic casting. He garnered global attention for his three-hour-long casting of Cloud9 vs SFZ. His dedication towards the game was soon noticed by the community. Another momentous point in his career was when the production team accidently played Eminem’s “Lose Yourself” as he was casting a game; ODPixel synced his cast to the beat of the song, turning it into a casting highlight.
ODPixel has earned the love of the community because of these reasons. He is known to convert challenges into beautiful memories. He was picked for the casting team of The International 2015, and has been a mainstay ever since.
David “LD” Gorman
Few organizations in esports are as unanimously adored as BeyondTheSummit. Summit tournaments are among the most iconic happenings in the Dota 2 circuit, and credit is due to LD in this regard. He co-founded the organization in March 2012 and has been with them ever since. He is a reputed caster with one of his most memorable moments being a “Waow” overhyped reaction.
LD’s casting is an odd balance of physical calm with an excited voice. He is capable of both good analysis and hype-casting, making him one of the most versatile voices in the Dota 2 scene. He is also one of the most recognizable since he has cast in every International till date.
Jorien “Sheever” van der Heijden
Sheever is a highly renowned female caster. She was introduced to gaming at a young age, and went on to immerse herself into WarCraft 3 and World of WarCraft. She even considered a professional life in World of WarCraft, raiding with the hardcore guild Ascendence for nearly four years. When she started playing Dota 2, she said she wanted to play the game and nothing else.
Sheever was part of The International 2012 as an interviewer for GosuGamers. By 2014, Sheever decided to do something with esports and Dota 2 as a career choice. Today, she is the most popular female caster on the planet.
