With drivers choosing personal numbers from this year, we look at who picked what.
Since 1996, Formula One numbers have been decided by the Constructors’ World Championship order but new to 2014, drivers now have to pick a number that will adorn their cars and helmets for the rest of their careers.
Sebastian Vettel will of course run the number one after wining last year’s World Championship but he has picked number five as his career number, the number he used in his 2001 karting campaign as well as the year he won his first Formula One World Championship, 2010.
Other standout numbers include Pastor Maldonado who picked 13, a number that has only ever been used twice before in Formula One, Nico Hulkenberg has gone for the much sought after 27 as made famous by Ferrari’s Gilles Villeneuve back when teams ran personal numbers while only Lewis Hamilton, Valtteri Bottas and Adrian Sutil went high, choosing 44, 77 and 99 respectively.
