If you’re aiming for long-term success in FIFA 20’s Career Mode, you’ll need to sign some promising wonderkids. Your first priority will be identifying players with high potential as these will likely develop into the game’s best talents in seasons to come.
Ahead of the game’s release on September 27, we’ve picked out some of the world's brightest prospects who should boast outstanding potential in-game. Blow your budget on one of these, and you’ll soon be winning plenty of Career Mode trophies.
Kylian Mbappé - Paris Saint-Germain

It was possible to train Paris Saint-Germain and France star Kylian Mbappé to incredible levels in Career Mode last year, surpassing even Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi in terms of his overall rating. In FIFA 20, expect a similar level of potential for the 20-year-old, who scored a massive 39 goals in 43 appearances for PSG last season. You’ll need some serious powers of persuasion to snag Mbappé, of course, as the Ligue 1 giants are likely to place a big price tag on him.
Matthijs de Ligt - Juventus/Piemonte Calcio
The story of the summer at Juventus was the arrival of Matthijs de Ligt, with the 20-year-old defender joining in a €75 million deal. His FIFA 20 overall rating is sure to get a boost following his noteworthy performances in the UEFA Champions League last season, as well as winning the Eredivisie with Ajax. Because he just signed, you will have to wait a year before you can purchase the Dutchman but if you can somehow snag him in Career Mode, you might well have access to the best centre-back in the world before long.

Last year, he could develop into a 90-rated CAM with the right training and there’s every chance you’ll be able to push that a little further in FIFA 20's Career Mode.
Sandro Tonali - Brescia
There’s a lot of hype at present surrounding Sandro Tonali, the Italian youngster who was promoted to Serie A with Brescia last season. The 19-year-old central-midfielder played a key part in the club’s success, making 34 league appearances and scoring three goals along the way. Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho adopted some impressive stats in FIFA 19, including a potential overall rating of around 91. But, we’re expecting even bigger things for the Englishman in Career Mode this year due to his outstanding 2018-19 season. Sancho contributed 13 goals across 43 games in all competitions for the German side, earning him a place in the Bundesliga Team of the Season as well as six caps for England.
Gianluigi Donnarumma - Milan
We’ve been describing Gianluigi Donnarumma as a wonderkid for years now and the 20-year-old continues to impress between the sticks. Donnarumma was equipped with stunning potential in FIFA 19, with the AC Milan and Italy keeper able to reach an overall rating in the mid-90s, which seems unlikely to change in FIFA 20. You’ll struggle to steal him away from the Serie A side, but you’ll never need another goalie if you manage it.
João Felix - Atlético Madrid

New Atlético Madrid forward João Felix signed a seven-year deal back in July, becoming the club’s most expensive signing in the process. There’s a lot of pressure riding on the Portuguese youngster’s shoulders. In FIFA 19, his overall rating had the potential to reach the high 80s but we think he will get an upgrade in FIFA 20 with Felix having enjoyed a prolific season in 2018-19, as well as making a great start to life in Madrid in recent weeks.
Trent Alexander-Arnold - Liverpool
It was quite the season for Trent Alexander-Arnold in 2018-19, with the 20-year-old right-back winning the UEFA Champions League with Liverpool. He was even named in the tournament’s Squad of the Season, and featured on 40 occasions for the Reds throughout the year. His potential saw him reach the high 80s in terms of his overall ability in FIFA 19, but given his incredible past twelve months, we expect his ratings to improve even further in this year’s game.

Bayer 04 Leverkusen midfielder Kai Havertz is likely to be rated highly in FIFA 20 following his phenomenal 2018-19 season in the Bundesliga. The 20-year-old scored seventeen goals throughout the league campaign, and was named runner up for the German Footballer of the Year award as a result. His potential in FIFA 19 allowed him to reach the low 90s in terms of his overall rating, and there’s every chance this will be improved upon for Career Mode in FIFA 20.
Vinicius Junior - Real Madrid
FIFA 20 is placing a big focus around “dynamic” one-on-one gameplay situations, and Vinicius Junior should prove highly effective at these down the wing. The 19-year-old Brazilian is known for his stunning pace and fantastic dribbling skills, which ultimately saw him evolve into one of the world’s best wingers in FIFA 19’s Career Mode. He featured 31 times for Real Madrid last year, so expect his initial overall rating to get a boost in FIFA 20 come September 27.
