DAV College (Chandigarh) have been crowned India champions of Red Bull Campus Cricket 2019. They beat Hindustan University (Chennai) in the final at Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur, with five wickets to spare in a thriller.
After four days of intense action at the national finals, DAV College will now be India's representative to the global T20 college cricket championship. Having previously won the national finals in 2013, DAV College (Chandigarh) will once again represent India at the Red Bull Campus Cricket World Finals in UAE in November this year.
Here are the results from the semi-finals and finals:
Semi-final 1: Hindustan University (Chennai) 123/9 beat MMC College (Pune) 81 all out by 41 runs. Harish NS from Hindustan University was the man of the match for picking up four wickets.
Semi-final 2: DAV College (Chandigarh) 128/7 beat Alfala College (Delhi) 127/8 by one run. Gurnoor Brar from DAV College was the man of the match for picking three wickets.
Finals: Hindustan University (Chennai) 108/9 lost to DAV College (Chandigarh) 109/5 by five wickets. Gurnoor Brar won the man of the match for picking up three wickets and conceding just 16 runs in four overs.
Red Bull Campus Cricket city qualifiers took place from the 3rd of February to the 12 of March across 30 cities. The teams then qualified for the regional round which was played between the 3rd to the 14th of April. The league rounds of Red Bull Campus Cricket National finals took place at Jaipuria Cricket Academy and KL Saini Ground from 13th May to 15th May 2019 between DAV College Chandigarh, Hindustan College Chennai, YBN College Ranchi, and MMCC Pune.
It is interesting to note that Rajasthan Royals scouts were present at the National Finals who had their eye out on a few selected players. They will have the opportunity to be part of trials conducted by the team along with the possibility of getting picked in the next IPL auctions. "This association is an apt way to discover raw talents while testing them in different matches at the national level and finally pitching them into international games to polish these talented individuals and bringing the best out of them. I am happy to be here and look forward to the matches," said Paddy Upton, Head Coach of Rajasthan Royals.
Individual awards from Red Bull Campus Cricket 2019 India Finals:
Man of the Match: Gurnoor Brar from DAV College (Chandigarh) for picking up three wickets for 16 runs in his four overs.
Best bowler of the tournament: Dev Yadav, captain of DAV College (Chandigarh) won the best bowler of the tournament award for picking up 10 wickets.
Best batter of the tournament: Akhil Kumar from DAV College (Chandigarh) won the best batsman of the tournament award for scoring 198 runs.
Player of the tournament: Shahrukh Khan from Hindustan College (Chennai) won player of the tournament award for an excellent all-round showing. He scored 182 runs and picked up eight wickets as well.
