A relative latecomer to the world of diving at 18, Bornebusch began to make the step up to high diving after meeting her boyfriend, Mads Søndergaard.
“I thought it was fun and challenging, but I had no ambitions to go all the way to 20m or even to compete,” she admits. “When I did my first 13m “high dive” people said they were looking forward to watching me compete from the Opera House, but I thought that was absolutely impossible, so I just laughed at them.
But I think Mads had the ambition because he saw I had the skills and dedication to the training. And slowly I realized it might be possible for me to reach some ambitious goals, and then we just kept going.”
The 31-year-old, who holds a master’s degree in Molecular Biomedicine, is also a keen snowboarder and she won the national championship in Big Air Snowboarding in 2018.
Her goal for 2023: “Represent my home country Denmark and show everyone at home that it is possible to achieve your dreams if you are dedicated and work hard.”
