Lucas 'Chumbo' Chianca comes from a family of surfers and took his first forays into shallow waves at the tender age of three years old with the assistance of a float. Just two years later he'd already competed in kids' events around his hometown of Saquarema near Rio de Janeiro in Brazil.

Chumbo graduated to Brazilian, Pro Junior and other competitions by the age of 14. But everything changed for him in 2015 when he surfed the notorious Jaws wave, in Hawaii, and it was a ride that made him realise that his future lay in conquering the world's biggest waves.
