Mitchell Marner is a prolific winger who plays for the Vegas Golden Knights in the NHL. He’s fast, agile and can create chances anywhere on the ice, which explains why his peers call him The Magician.
Marner’s big break came while playing for The London Knights during the 2016 season that saw the junior team win the Ontario Hockey League Championship and The Memorial Cup. He was top scorer and picked up two coveted MVP awards.

Marner is a top scorer on the ice

All this success caught the attention of the team Marner supported as a boy – the Toronto Maple Leafs. He was invited to train with the legendary ice-hockey outfit during the 2016-17 pre-season and grabbed his opportunity with both hands, claiming four assists and securing himself a place on the roster for that season.
Marner’s rookie season with the Maple Leafs saw him break a 73-year club record when he notched up 42 assists in 77 appearances. He also collected 66 points in that campaign, helping the Leafs finish fourth in the NHL’s Atlantic Division before losing to the Washington Capitals in the first round of the playoffs.
After two more impressive campaigns with the Maple Leafs, on September 13, 2019, Marner signed a new six-year contract and was named an alternate captain for the team. The following season, he became the fourth player in the franchise's history to record at least five consecutive seasons with 40 assists and was named a first-team NHL All-Star.
On the ice with the Toronto Maple Leafs, Marner continued to be one of the league’s top playmakers through the 2023–24 and 2024–25 seasons, including recording his third career hat-trick in late 2024 and surpassing franchise milestones such as tying for the fifth-most game-openers in Leafs history.

The beginning of a new era in Vegas

In June 2025, at the end of that six-year contract, Marner signed a new eight-year contract before immediately being traded to the Vegas Golden Knights in exchange for Nicolas Roy. On joining his new team, Marner moved back to the number 93 jersey that he'd worn previously at the London Knights.
In 2026, Marner made headlines on the international stage, scoring a dramatic overtime goal for Team Canada at the Winter Olympics, helping the national team advance to the semi-final round. Marner and his team earned a silver medal in Milano-Cortina.
