Oriane Bertone has been marked for climbing greatness ever since she became the youngest person ever to complete a V14 (8B+) boulder problem in 2018 at the age of just 12.
It was an incredible feat that put the teenager from Reunion Island on the fast-track to the top of both bouldering and lead climbing, and Oriane has been climbing her way to the top ever since.
Competition success
After stepping out onto the international competition circuit in 2019, Oriane has been racking up impressive results. A double-double of gold in Boulder and Lead at both the 2019 World and European junior championships preceded her step up to compete in the full IFSC World Cup circuit in 2021.
In 2022, Oriane took home the bronze medal in the Bouldering competition at the European Championships in Munich, which was undoubtedly the first of many senior medals to come. She continued her podium streak in 2023 by taking second place at the IFSC Climbing World Cup in three locations: Seoul, South Korea, Salt Lake City, USA, and Bern, Switzerland.
From there, Oriane has continued to build her bouldering palmares, adding a second place finish at the Salt Lake City round of the IFSC World Cup in 2024.
Silver at the World Championships
At the 2025 IFSC World Championships, she looked on track to win, but, despite getting her fingertips onto the top, she fell. After a quick break to reset, she tried again but could not hold on and had to settle for second place.
Reflecting on her silver medal: "I felt like I could do it, I had the hands twice in the hold. There's a big regret, but it's comp climbing. I've been second behind a bunch of times already, so I'm getting used to it. Hopefully, next time I can keep pushing my mind and seize that opportunity.”
Pro Climbing League debut
In 2026, Oriane was selected to compete in a brand new competition, the Pro Climbing League. At the inaugural event in London, UK, she flashed the final boulder to claim the title ahead of Janja Garnbret in a lightning-fast showdown.
