A Vuelta a España winner, World Champion and double Olympic gold medallist, Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe rider Remco Evenepoel has established himself as one of the most accomplished and exciting riders of his generation.
Born in Aalst, Belgium, Evenepoel originally seemed destined for a career in football, representing the youth academies of Anderlecht and PSV Eindhoven, while also captaining Belgium's youth national teams. But, following an injury during a match in 2016, the Belgian decided to pursue cycling full-time and his rise was nothing short of extraordinary.

The trophy haul begins

Within a year, he swept both the road race and time trial titles at the Junior World Championships, before turning professional in 2019. After bypassing the under-23 ranks, he began racking up victories for Deceuninck–Quick-Step in some of cycling's biggest events. In his debut season, he won the overall title at the Tour of Belgium and claimed his first World Tour victory at the Clásica de San Sebastián. He also secured a win in the 2019 European Road Championships time trial and capped off a remarkable year with a silver medal in the World Championships.

Mastering the sport’s toughest tests

2022 saw Evenepoel reach new heights on cycling’s biggest stages. In April, he claimed his first Monument victory at Liège–Bastogne–Liège, winning on his debut appearance in the race. He followed that up with another dominant solo attack to win the Clásica de San Sebastián.
Later that year, he secured his first Grand Tour title at the Vuelta a España after taking control of the race with a series of commanding performances in the mountains and time trials. Just weeks later, he completed a remarkable campaign by winning the UCI Road World Championships in Australia, attacking from a breakaway and riding solo to become World Champion for the first time at elite level.
He would go on to defend his Liège–Bastogne–Liège title in 2023, as well as winning both the road race and the time trial at the World Championships that year. But there was more to come.

A golden summer in Paris

Just six days after finishing third in the Tour de France, Evenepoel produced a historic performance at the 2024 Olympics in Paris. He first won gold in the individual time trial before returning a week later to triumph in the road race. A late puncture had threatened to spoil his chances after a solo attack had put him in control, but a swift bike change saved the day and allowed him to maintain his advantage and ride to a second gold medal. In doing so, he became the first male cyclist to win both the Olympic time trial and road race at the same Games.

Tour de France setback and a new chapter

Soon after the 2025 Tour de France, where he abandoned the race following a crash that left him unable to continue, Evenepoel announced a new chapter in his career by joining Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe. He wasted little time making an impact in his new colours, securing a third consecutive time trial title at the 2025 Road World Championships.
He also helped the team to secure victory in the Challenge Mallorca team time trial before claiming back-to-back individual wins at the Trofeo Serra Tramuntana and Trofeo Andratx-Pollença, and will share team leadership with Florian Lipowitz at the 2026 Tour de France as one of the squad's primary general classification contenders

Life beyond the peloton

Evenepoel is married to his childhood sweetheart, Oumaïma (Oumi) Rayane. The couple, who grew up as neighbours and attended the same high school, were married in 2022. Rayane has built a significant following on social media as a lifestyle and fashion influencer, and the couple frequently share glimpses of their life together away from racing. He also speaks Dutch, French and English fluently.
