Surfing Competition

Finding the motivation to slide into a 5/4mm hooded wetsuit and paddle into a hardy winter swell has never been a problem for Sanoa Olin. Born into a family of surfers on the rugged coastline of Tofino, British Columbia, she's a product of her environment and cold water surfing is all she knows.

Olin was introduced to the ocean as a toddler and got her first surfboard – a 5ft soft top – at age six. Family lore has it that she rode her first-ever shoulder-high wave that same winter after accidentally following her mother, and older sister Mathea, out past the break. When most would have panicked, the youngest Olin paddled into the peeler and rode it all the way to shore. She became hooked on the power of the ocean and began taking to the water every day – rain, shine or snow.
