Santiago Lange is one of the most distinguished sailors in the history of Argentine yachting and well-known personality on the international scene.
A naval achitect by trade, his extensive and brilliant sports CV includes success at the highest level, such as winning bronze in the Tornado class in 2004 and 2008 in Athens and Beijing and an incredible gold in the Nacra 17 class in Rio in 2017.
The latter win was all the more remarkable as it came less than a year after surgery to remove part of one of his lungs.
Santiago also boasts multiple world titles across the Snipe, Tornado and Nacra 17 classes.
His personal palmarès include the 2008 Olympia Prize – the most coveted award in Argentine sports – awarded after his performance in Beijing, and World Sailing's 2016 World Sailor of the Year.
He has also taken on the challenge of major international competitions, such as the Volvo Ocean Race. He first participated in the 2001/2002 edition with Team SEB crew member, before returning for a second time in 2008/2009 with Telefónica Negro.
Lange's success has continued beyond his 2017 Rio success with first-place wins in the 52 Super Series in Spain in 2019 and the 52 Super Series in Italy in 2023.
Santiago's talent for sailing clearly runs runs deep in his DNA as his sons, Yago and Klaus, are both international-level sailors in their own right.
