Congratulations, Carissa Moore, you’ve done it again. Moore was the youngest ever women’s world champion in 2011, when she was only 18. She backed it up in 2013 with her second world title trophy, and here we are in 2015, crowning her again, for the third time.
Moore’s dominance has been paralleled by few during her career on the Women’s World Tour, but it's her consistency that keeps lifting her up, up, up to the shoulders of her father and friends as they chair her from the beach to the winner’s podium.
Above all, Moore credits her father, Chris, for that success. Whether they’re splitting peaks back home in Hawaii or discussing strategy before a heat in New Zealand, the evidence of their strong relationship is plenty. And so it was perfect that this, her third world title, was won in Hawaiian waters, at Honolua Bay in Maui and standing at the shoreline was her father for the first congratulatory hug.
Until last year, the Women’s World Tour hadn’t competed in Hawaii since Moore’s rookie year in 2010. They couldn’t garner the attention, nor the funds, to put the girls in competition in some of the best waves the world had to offer. That changed in 2014, due in large part to the display that Moore had been putting on in line-ups.
Moore’s surfing doesn’t ask for your attention, it demands it, and it demanded it so that the girls could return to Hawaii for the final contest of the year. So that Moore could make history by dominating en route to her third world title and so that one proud father could chair his daughter to the stage and watch her collect number three.
Moore is your 2015 women’s world champion and we, along with her dad, couldn’t be prouder. Congrats, Carissa Moore and cheers to you too, Mr Moore.
