It’s been a couple of years now since Robin made himself noticed at every contest he entered. A good all-round skater at a pretty young age, his transitions skills are clearly oustanding compared to the rest of the pack. Could be a good juncture to find out more about Mr Bolian.
Hi Robin, how have you been since last week end? Please introduce yourself to the whole world!
So, I'm Robin Bolian, I'm 14 years old and I'm from a little town close to Lyon.
How did you first discover skateboarding and what got you addicted to it?
Through TV shows and videos; I knew there was a skatepark in Lyon, so I went there to find out if they'd give lessons- if there was a skate school. So, I tried and I've been addicted ever since.

You skate everything but it's clearly on transitions where you are most at home. Is it what you like skating best?
Yeah, for sure- I love to ride bowls, even though I think it's good to ride everything- all kinds of terrain; I don't really know why I prefer trannies but that’s how it is!
You're lucky enough to have parents prepared to drive you all over Europe almost every week-end- what's your best spot so far, and where’s your dream destination?
I'd like to go to the United States- Lincoln City, Oregon. Looks fun….Bondi beach in Australia as well . Aside from that, Marseille's Prado bowl is great and Copenhagen is amazing, so cool. If I had to choose one I have already visited I'd go for Copenhagen.
Who do you look up to? Any heroes, or maybe a favourite video part?
I really dig Pedro Barros, I also really like Curren Caples, as far as street skating goes i like Louie Lopez… I don't really have a favourite video part ; in fact I watch everything that comes out! Closer to home there's Guigui (Guillaume Mocquin) that I look up to a lot, he's super nice. Then there’s P'tit Ju (Julien Bénoliel)...hmm- who else? Let me think about it… oh yeah- the Belgians! Phil Zwijsen and Jarne Verbruggen.
You just got on flow from Element, how did that come about?
They got my Dad's phone number from ABS skateshop in Lyon. We got a call from them and here I am, riding Element decks for the last a few months.
Did you go on tour or meet the whole team already?
No, not yet- it's kind of fresh still, it's only been 3 or 4 months.
The team was in Lyon last week-end but I was at the Far N High contest in Paris so I missed them.
So what does the future look like for Robin Bolian?
I'd like to make it as a pro but I know it's complicated- I'll have to work a lot.
It would also be cool to create a skateboard company, but before that it'd be sick if I could make it as a pro skater… maybe overseas?
There's this video of you that's been buzzing a little lately, you landed a 540° on a vert ramp. Was it your first one?
Actually I've landed a couple before but under the coping. That one was really the first one above the lip, i was so stoked. Jean Postec was here and was really cool to me, he gave me insights into how to turn your shoulders, how to pump properly into the transition and so on.
So are you more into vert ramps, or bowls?
I'd say both; riding ramps is useful when it comes to riding big bowls.
Any thank- you’s?
Of course, my sponsors: Element skateboards and ABS skateshop. Mathieu Hilaire who taught me how to skate and Cédric Achard as well, oh and PMF: Papa, Mum and Family!
Thanks, see you soon !
Bye!
