Race format & rules
Red Bull Guanajuato Cerro Abajo is a high-stakes urban downhill battle where every second counts. The race follows a time-trial format, where riders take on the course individually, and the fastest descent wins. Conquering the race track isn’t a case of pure speed, however. The winner will always bring together a mix of top-tier skill – rider precision, pure confidence and unrivalled control in navigating one of the most intense urban downhill courses in the sport.
The course was packed with punishing stair sets, rooftop drops, tight alleyway corners, and high-speed wallrides, demanding razor-sharp reflexes and fearless commitment. Every man-made feature – jumps, drops, and wallrides – was mandatory, with a 5-second penalty for incorrect execution. Unlike traditional downhill courses, there was no tape marking the track, so riders had to rely on track memorisation to find the fastest lines.
