Day 1

Day 1 was marked by groundbreaking performances, including the inaugural Women’s Division, showcasing six of the world’s elite female big air kiteboarders. They competed in two intense heats, showing their exceptional skills as they launched into the air, executing big, technical tricks. Francesca Maini (United Kingdom) and Pippa Van Iersel (Netherlands) claimed victory in their respective Round One heats, earning spots in the final. Meanwhile, Angely Bouillot (France) and reigning World Champion Zara Hoogenraad (Netherlands) clashed in a tense semi-final. In the end, Hoogenraad's precision and power secured her the third and final slot in the championship round.
The Open Division saw 18 of the world’s best Big Air kiteboarders take to the skies. Jamie Overbeek (Netherlands), Lorenzo Casati (Italy), South African Luca Ceruti and defending champion Andrea Principi (Italy) all delivered standout performances, with Principi closing out the day with a series of huge, complex moves.

Day 2

Red Bull King of the Air 2024 concluded with a thrilling finale in Cape Town, as Andrea Principi successfully defended his Open Division title and Francesca Maini claimed victory in the inaugural Women’s Division. Held in the last hours of the event’s weather window, the competition took full advantage of the Cape Doctor winds, peaking at 40 knots, and massive swells to deliver an electrifying showcase of Big Air kiteboarding. Shortened heats and a dynamic schedule ensured riders could perform at their best in the fleeting ideal conditions.
Principi’s breathtaking combination of technical mastery and innovation, highlighted by tricks like the Contra Loop Back Tornado Board Off, solidified his reign as champion. Maini made history with her win, delivering high-scoring manoeuvres such as a Kite Loop Board Off and Contra Loop Front Roll, establishing herself as a trailblazer in the Women’s Division. The event also celebrated local talent, with South African Luca Ceruti making the podium in the Open Division, and awarded Zac Adams the Mystic Most Extreme Move Of The Day for his Kiteloop Rotational Boardflip.
Looking ahead, the 2025 edition promises even more drama with European qualifiers leading to another world-class finale in Cape Town.
