Filmers@Large: Nazare Pt. II

For the second time in a week, Portugal's nastiest wave serves up savage size.

For the second time in a week, the Nazaré Canyon funnelled a huge Altantic swell into Praia do Norte in Portugal, delivering XXL waves to a handful of dedicated maniacs, and a cliffload of mindblown spectactors on Sunday.
If you saw the week's earlier effort you saw Pedro 'Scooby' Vianna battle it out with Sebastian Steudtner and Eric Rebiere in atrocious conditions, as mountains of water were ribbed with moguls as the result of howling onshore winds. This weekend was a different state of affairs however, and to keep with the alpine analogies, condtions were groomed to perfection.
Last week's heroes were joined by Hawaiian-maestro-turned-Portuguese-celebrity Garrett McNamara, England's most fearless waterman Andrew Cotton and local maniac Joao Macedo, who took matters into his own hands literally, and paddled the session.
Being a Sunday the crowd lining the cliffs numbered in the thousands, with Policia needed to block-off streets as the town plaza throbbed with life, and folks happily paid the €1 fee to enter the lighthouse and enjoy the best view in town. Well, the best view until this clip from Alex Laurel springs to life anyway. Strap yourself in and hit play to soak up a European experience you won't find in the brochure.
