Sometimes, the ocean gets angry. Over the course of a few days, big storms in both the Atlantic and Pacific sent some of the biggest waves of the year to a slew of the world’s premier spots. Mavericks broke. The Big Wave World Tour held an event at Punta Galea. Jaws was on fire, and a select few North Shore big wave spots showed their fangs. But the highlight of all this energy must’ve been the XXL session that went down at Nazaré, Portugal. Photographer Jeff Flindt hardly lets a Nazaré swell slip by him and he documented December 11 there from start to finish. Here are 14 of the day’s finest moments – more photos and a video coming soon.
