It’s difficult to imagine a song like German synth-poppers Claire’s Broken Promise Land, taken from their forthcoming album The Great Escape, getting that much bigger; it’s already the stuff arenas were made for, with its driving beat and punchy, uplifting chorus. So who do you call on to remix a song that’s already a striding pop anthem? Giorgio Moroder, obviously.
The band have got the disco legend and multiple Grammy and Oscar winner himself to rework their latest single in the middle of his hectic schedule, which has presumably been rammed since his stardom-reviving spot on Daft Punk’s Random Access Memories last year.
As well as DJing at NYC’s Deep Space for Red Bull Music Academy last year, Moroder is set to appear at Sydney Opera House in June. He even recently remixed Coldplay, proving a little disco can soothe the soul of even a break-up ballad.
The match with Munich’s Claire, though, is show stealing. Josie-Claire Bürkle’s vocal glides over Moroder’s disco strut (and vocoder work) as though that’s what it was made for. Watch the official video for the remix exclusively here, and read our catch-up with Bürkle below.

What does it mean to you to be remixed by the Munich Machine?
It’s just incredible. When we first listened to it, we all sat down together and everyone was just so excited. Giorgio really took our breath. He’s just a big influence on modern music and a true pioneer. Everything he’s created over the past few decades is truly inspiring – and Random Access Memories and his Coldplay remix show us he’s just getting started.
The fact he could even be a grandpa to some of us just shows that a true musical genius never loses his creativity
Coming from the same city, do you have your own Moroder story?
We’ve not seen him around Munich but we did meet him in LA last year after we finished some gigs at the CMJ Festival in New York. It was the day we took off for Munich and the last thing we did was have a coffee with him. We sat waiting nervously for him to come and when he finally did, we couldn’t believe our eyes. He’s so down to earth, so charming and the chat we had was probably one of the most badass things we’ve ever experienced.
Is it odd working with a visionary musician who’s as old as your dads?
It’s nothing but awesome! The fact he could even be a grandpa to some of us just shows that a true musical genius never loses his creativity.

What other music inspired your new album, The Great Escape? We had tons of musical influences – SBTRKT, Trentemøller, Flume, Lianne La Havas, Moderat, just to name a few. If we had to write down a list of all of them it would be endless.
What about non-musical inspirations? We get so much from all the things we experience every day as a band. All the beautiful places we see with their amazing people, museums, streets and cafés, and stunning movies, TV series, everyday situations. The small things seem to have the biggest impact on our creativity.
Follow Claire on Facebook. The Great Escape is out on June 9.
