Berms, or banked turns, are one of those things that it's easy to think that you 'just ride around,' but in reality, mastering them can unlock untold trail speed.
In their latest MTB How To, Rob Warner and Tom Oehler are your guides to authoritative berm-blasting:

1. Approach the berm standing up, assess the tightness of it, and adjust your speed accordingly.
2. Do all your braking before the turn itself in order to carry better speed through it.
3. Pick a line through the corner – generally speaking, the higher your speed the higher that you’ll want to be on the face of the berm. Usually around two thirds up the berm is where you want to be.
4. Once in the berm, keep your head up and look forwards, all the way through it. Lower your body over your bike to allow for a more stable feeling and a lower centre of gravity.
5. Lower your outside pedal and put as much weight on it as possible to help increase traction on the inside edge of the tyres.
6. The higher the speed, the more lean angle you’ll have to add. If you’re approaching the top of the berm, a drag of the back brake will bring you back towards the centre.
