Red Bull MTB commentator extraordinaire Rob Warner caught up with Loïc Bruni at the Red Bull Foxhunt in Rostrevor a few weeks back to chat about his season. Bruni had earlier fought it out with 450 hounds down the slopes of Slieve Martin in Rostrevor, coming inside the top-20 amid some spectacular racing. Once he'd got his breath back, the two-time downhill world champion sat down with Warner to discuss the year that was, one that's been full of highs and lows.
The year started dismally for the young French rider with heavy rain affecting the top-20 riders in Lourdes and his much publicised vocal reaction in the aftermath. The following race in Fort William was marred by a crash, before a horrible hematoma injury in Leogang, that had him in hospital for five days.
However, he successfully turned things around with a late season run of success that saw him gain race-by-race, leading up to the highlight of the World Championship for a second time on a track he felt he couldn't win on in Cairns, Australia. For once, Loïc had the right of reply to Rob's prose and gives as good as he gets!
Join Rob for this in-depth chat with Loïc on the 2017 season and beyond. In a sport where a few riders are consistently winning events such as Greg Minnaar and in particular Aaron Gwin, it's been hard for Loïc to push through, but as he explains here, he knows now he can do it. We think he's one to watch and one thing is for sure, it's true what they say about the French, Loïc's got style for miles!
