Arvid Lindblad took a superb F3 double at Silverstone. After dominating Saturday's Sprint from the reverse grid front row the 16-year-old Briton produced something special in wildly changing conditions on Sunday to be the first driver ever to score an F3 double.
The track conditions changed 4 times through the race and many teams swapped tyres to match. Lindblad was almost last at one point but the youngest driver in the race was always fighting hard and eventually won convincingly.
Fellow Red Bull Juniors Oliver Goethe and Tim Tramnitz both featured strongly at times on Sunday as conditions and fortunes changed dramatically but the two 19-year-old Germans missed out on the podium. Goethe took 6th and Tramnitz 14th.
Lindblad magic
“Absolutely incredible weekend here at Silverstone, doing the double at home, insane, beyond my wildest dreams."
“We didn't maximise Quali, changing conditions, rain on the second set, we got the timing wrong on the drying track at the end, lucky to be P11 and still in the top 12.”
“Started P2 for the Sprint, got him straight off the line. Then I was just managing the pace the first few laps but it was a fast race so couldn't really save too much. I think I did a better job than those around me and I managed to pull a gap.”
“Then the Feature Race today. It was insane, it started to drizzle on the grid, there was a lot of rain expected, the team decided to change, I wasn't super keen but they had the information.”
On the formation lap, it was dry so I came into the pits for the slicks.
“It was the right tyre, I went to the front straight away after the Safety Car. Then it started to rain a lot in the middle part of the race, super sketchy. We stuck to the strategy, stayed with the slick and in the last few laps it started to dry out again and I could go forward again and win it.”
Goethe got it right in the end
“A chaotic weekend with the weather and track conditions. We were saving tyres in FP, then in Quali I was P4 with the one dry lap. Then it rained, everyone thought that was it but right at the end it suddenly dried and we missed putting in another push lap so that was disappointing.”
“The Sprint started OK, made up 2 positions but then had contact early, it was a big crash so I am happy to be OK and happy that the team could rebuild the car for today.”
“The Feature was completely chaotic. I made 3 pit stops and still finished 6th from 20th on the grid so that gives you an idea how mad it was. The last call to go to slicks was good and that gave us the result and some good points.”
Tramnitz battling through after Qualifying trouble
“Qualifying was quite difficult with the wrong strategy, with the weather. Everyone else improved as the track dried quickly.”
“Starting P21 is not easy but on Saturday I had quite a good first lap, managed to improve up to P13. After the Safety Car restart I tried to make a move for P12, locked up my front left in Turn 4 and I touched the other guy. I had to stop and change my nose.”
“Today's race, we started the formation lap on wets, then changed to slicks in the pit lane. In the first stint, I moved up to P2, quite a good job from pretty much last. Then it started to rain and we went in for wets. Then the track started to dry, we wanted to change again but the pit lane was closed and after it would have cost a lot of time to pit.”
Complicated race, exciting but I couldn't do more, P14.
