The 2019 League of Legends World Championshipis officially underway andSKT, who are no strangers to the competition, have made a remarkable return after missing out last year. The Korean first seeds pulled off a clinical victory over Fnatic in the opening game of the Group Stage, surprising their opponents with a Kayle pick in the bot lane, as well as givingFaker Tristana in the mid.
Park 'Teddy' Jin-seong admits that he hasn't had too much experience on Kayle but it was something that SKT had pre-prepared. Explaining, he said, "It wasn't a super clean game, but we pulled out some unusual picks, so I feel quite good about that. We didn't really think Fnatic would play Garen and Yuumi, but if they did we were always going to play Kayle, so we were prepared. I haven't played Kayle that much, but because of my top lane, mid and I can all play AD Carry champions, I think I will definitely play more Kayle in the future."
G2's influence
The way SKT flex picked Tristana and Kayle was almost G2-esque and Teddy confesses that they learned a lot about unorthodox picks from G2 at MSI.
"After losing at MSI, we learned a lot from G2 about unusual picks," he said. "It helped us a lot with picks, bans and our overall thoughts on the game. After MSI, I also feel like I lost a lot of nervousness and I'm less sensitive about being on the International stage now."
Faker is the best player of all time
One of the standout players in SKT's victory over Fnatic was Faker, who went 9–0 on his Tristana in his first game back at Worlds since 2017. Teddy believes having him on the team gives them a massive advantage.
"I think Faker is obviously the best player of all time," he said. "He has such a deep champion pool and he's very good with all those champions. He also makes really good calls – not to mention his amazing mechanics, which make him one of the best."
