Watch Luc Ackermann master the Double Backflip for the first time and become the youngest ever rider to land the huge FMX trick.
Shortly before his 20th birthday, the young talent from Niederdorla, Germany, added another record to his ever-growing list – the Double Backflip. The challenging mission was kept secret to minimise the pressure on the rider, who's been working on the hugely demanding trick for several months in his foam pit at home.
Once he felt safe enough rotating all 110kg of his Husqvarna TC450 twice into the foam-pit, Ackermann and crew moved over to an FMX compound in Austria, where they set up an airbag-covered landing.

After a few well-executed jumps onto the airbag he was ready for business and proceeded to land one of the hardest FMX tricks smoothly to dirt. To say he was overcome with emotion would be an understatement, but it didn't take too long before he was back on his bike to stick a few more Double Flips so he could leave Austria with the confidence of having that trick firmly in the bag.

"The Double Backflip is one of the biggest tricks to learn, but I finally managed to pull it off and I'm more than happy and relieved," Ackermann commented after his success. "A big thanks goes out to everyone who has supported me along the way.
"It was a long-term goal to master the Double Flip as the youngest rider and it all came together well," he continued. "I landed my first Backflip in October 2010, at the Night of the Jumps in Cologne, and became the youngest rider to flip a motorcycle so it was kind of natural that I also hunted the record for the double. Luckily I managed that heavy goal before I turned 20."

- October 2010: Youngest rider to Backflip a full-size motorcycle.
- October 2012: Jumps over 9m high during the Night of the Jumps. He's still the youngest rider to have gone that high.
- March 2013: Ackermann is one of 18 FMX riders to have landed a Backflip and gets another mention in the Guinness Book of Records.
- June 2017: Wins the Night of the Jumps in Hamburg and becomes the youngest-ever winner of the series.
- July 2017: Finishes fifth at Red Bull X-Fighters in Madrid and becomes the most successful German rider of all time.
- October 2017: Ackermann lands the Double Flip, becoming the youngest rider to do so.
