“Creativity with a sledgehammer” is how Jenny Rossander, aka Copenhagen’s Lydmor, describes her musical process. This may not make immediate sense when you hear her sweet and sensual electronic pop. But check out her intense live shows, or pay attention to her brutal lyrical honesty, and you’ll realise the eccentric Danish singer isn’t light on feeling.
Lydmor has recorded in a duo with Bon Homme of disco Danes WhoMadeWho, and last year co-produced a track with Japanese J-pop idol Takeshi Kobayashi. But she is also an acclaimed solo artist in her native Denmark.
Her third solo album, I Told You I’d Tell Them Our Story, is a concept record inspired by a mysterious six-month stay in Shanghai. As she tells us in this See. Hear. Now. session, the title comes from a promise she made to those she shared the experience with, to write about the “darkness and love and a lot of crazy things”.
The first track she performs here, Killing Time, is about the torment of online love, while DIM questions a lover’s commitment. “I’m starting to build this world for people to dream themselves in to,” she says. "I've started to look at my whole career as more of a movie director than just a musician."
