A soaking Dutch round resulted in a shortened 12-lap dash, which in turn delivered a thrilling race.

MotoGP had a very wet encounter at the TT Assen, where a torrential downpour resulted in a red-flagged race and a shortened re-run.
The original race was stopped after 15 of 26 laps, as visibility deteriorated rapidly. It had already served up a fascinating race with plenty of excitement, but the second running produced even more in a frantic day.

Jorge Lorenzo salvaged a tenth-placed finish after a difficult weekend, as he made his best efforts to limit the damage to his championship hopes, but a third DNF for Rossi left the Italian 42 points off series leader Márquez.

Race winner Jack Miller:
I don’t know what to feel at the moment. A lot of people have bad-mouthed us and doubted this project, and I hope we showed them they were wrong. Thanks to Honda for taking this risk on me, I can’t thank them enough.
Championship leader Marc Márquez:
Today was the race to lose points. I was really concentrated, and did my own race in both races. I saw Valentino crash and then Miller came past me, I thought a second place today would be like a victory. These 20 points will be really important in the championship.
Third-placed Scott Redding:
I struggled more in the beginning, and it was very hard to pass. I made the move (for third) and it paid off. It was a crazy race out there today, so I’m so happy to be here.

MotoGP milestones at Assen
This was the 250th MotoGP race since it replaced the 500cc class, and the 800th race in the Moto3 category (including the old 125cc).
It was also Andrea Dovizioso's 150th premier-class race start, one which the Italian marked with by starting from pole position.
