The Red Bull Music Academy Weekender comes to Madrid for the first time over the weekend of October 3-6, 2013. For four days and nights, the Spanish capital will be treated to some of the finest experimental and most trouser-flappingly loud musicians on the planet.
Things kick off at Teatro Kapital on Thursday evening with performances by Syrian-folk raver Omar Souleyman, US sound magpie James Pants and homegrown talent Joe Crepúsculo, then it's all back to the after-party which, in true Spanish-style, continues until well after sunrise.

Friday's action includes lectures and workshops at Nave de Música and a live headline performance by Throbbing Gristle pair and recent collaborators with Factory Floor's Nik Void, Chris & Cosey. The shadowy and much-heralded The Haxan Cloak bring the floor-shaking sounds of their Tri-Angle album Excavation in support alongside Fasenuova, plus DJ sets from Benjamin Damage and Cosmin TRG at Sala Cool.
Saturday's a very big day, indeed. Stand-out names include Olympian-sized psych-noise merchants Fuck Buttons, Chicago house pioneer Derrick Carter, crate-digger extraordinaire Andy Votel and the Soul Jazz Sound System, among many others. Those up early enough after the night before will find talks and workshops all over the city and a huge record fair.
The weekend wraps up on Sunday with a free concert in Plaza Matadero Madrid, featuring Lost Twin, C.Tangana, Alizzz and Chelisb2b with Mwëslee.
