With thousands of people and hundreds of race cars, trucks, motorcycles and, of course, their support vehicles parked up every night, space at the Dakar Rally 2018 bivouac is tight. So tight, in fact, that you can barely find a place to pitch your tent.
Our intrepid on-site report Tim Sturtridge, however, is now a Dakar veteran. In his ninth year on the route, he's collected quite a bit of wisdom when it comes to making the rally run as smoothly as possible – even with all the sand and dust. How to pitch your tent at the Dakar Rally

Whether your racing, a mechanic or reporting, a good night's sleep is essential to a good Dakar Rally. Our reporter Tim Sturtridge explains the importance of how and where to pitch your tent.

As you can see above, it's all about location, location, location – with a mind for the weather of the day. Screw up and you could be suffering, and even looking for a new place to lay your head in the middle of the night. Since sleep on the rally is precious, we highly suggest you take a word of advice from Tim and pitch perfectly.
