Formula Racing
This is the car that GP2 champion Pierre Gasly will race in Super Formula with Team Mugen.
The 21-year-old Frenchman is joining an expanded two-car Mugen Team in the top flight of racing in Japan. It’s the same series that Stoffel Vandorne, who Gasly succeeded as GP2 champion, used as preparation for his step up to F1 with McLaren.
And Pierre will be joining a grid that also includes former F1 pilots Kamui Kobayashi and Kazuki Nakajima, whose Toyota TS 050 hybrid broke down barely one lap from victory at the 2016 24 Hours of Le Mans, and GT star Jann Mardenborough.
In heading to Japan, Gasly is following in the tracks of an earlier generation of European racers such as Michael and Ralf Schumacher, Heinz-Harald Frentzen and Eddie Irvine.
“It is all going to be very different, I have no experience with the car or the tracks and I know that the Japanese culture, philosophy, way of working, just about everything is different. It is a fantastic new challenge and I love that.”
Prepared by Mugen, Gasly’s Super Formula car is powered by a two-litre Honda powerplant with a lightweight Dallara SF14 chassis. Take a closer look below:
