Founded in 2009, RB Leipzig rose from the fifth tier of German football to the Bundesliga in just seven years. Since reaching the top flight, the club have twice finished runners-up in the Bundesliga, reached the UEFA Champions League semi-finals in 2020 and established themselves as regular contenders near the top of German football.
Back-to-back DFB-Pokal titles and Supercup success
Leipzig’s rise soon translated into silverware. After reaching the DFB-Pokal final in 2019 and again in 2021, they lifted the trophy for the first time in 2022 before successfully defending it a year later. The club added the German Supercup in 2023, giving Leipzig three major domestic trophies in the space of two seasons.
Competing at the top of the Bundesliga and in Europe
European football has also become a regular part of Leipzig’s story. Beyond their Champions League semi-final run in 2020, the club reached the Europa League semi-finals in 2022 and qualified for European competition in each of their first eight Bundesliga seasons. After missing out on European qualification at the end of 2024/25, a third-place Bundesliga finish the following season secured a return to the Champions League for 2026/27.
Developing the next generation
Developing young talent has long been central to Leipzig’s sporting model. The club have built a reputation for giving emerging players the platform to develop at Bundesliga and European level, while continuing to invest in their academy and performance centre to bring the next generation closer to senior football.
