The idyllic surroundings of Frew Farm in Southland, New Zealand, were once transformed into the perfect venue for some super two-wheeled action last weekend as the annual freestyle festival that is Farm Jam took place.
The sheep that normally graze on the hills surrounding the farm were given a weekend pass to do as they please as bike riders and spectators converged to Frew Farm for this annual display of freestyle mayhem.
A vocal 2000-strong crowd enjoyed perfect conditions with blue skies overhead and were treated to the best Farm Jam show to date.
Spain’s Andreu Lacondeguy took home the first prize in the MTB Freeride category, while Australia’s Kyle Baldock rocked the number one spot in BMX. Home favourite Nick Franklin took the honours in the FMX competition.
Andreu Lacondeguy showed a huge trick repertoire in MTB contest and was able to defeat defending champion Connor Macfarlane. Quite a feat when you take into account Andreu also competed in the FMX competition. It was Andreu’s first international competition in the latter category and he performed admirably against the giants of the FMX scene.
Kyle Baldock was taken close in the BMX contest but threw in a giant double backflips and a frontflip cliffhanger as the competition reached its finale.
Nick Franklin had to be at his very best to take the FMX title from Australia’s Matt Schubring. Nick has failed to win at the two previous Farm Jam events he has attended but it was a case of third time lucky for Nick.
Scoring in the FMX category was split over two sessions. Nick finished second to Matt Schubring on the freeride session on natural terrain and then took first place on the Farm Jam FMX course to claim the Farm Jam FMX crown.
Our highlights clip shows trick action from all three Farm Jam categories. Riders featured include: Nick Franklin (FMX), Andreu Lacondeguy (MTB), Kyle Baldock (BMX), Tyrone Gilks (FMX), Connor Macfarlane (MTB), Luke Parslow (BMX), Kelly McGarry (MTB), Joel Brown (FMX) and Anthony Napolitan (BMX)
*Nick Franklin will be taking part in the Nitro Circus show in the UK this evening (February 28). Nick and a few other FMX riders will be making an attempt on a new Guinness World Record for the most FMX riders pulling a backflip at the same time. Read more on that World Record attempt here.
