Despite having been recently supplanted at the top of the games chart by Batman: Arkham Knight, Projekt Red’s medieval-inspired fantasy RPG has been nothing short of a swashbuckling success. By now we reckon you’ve probably slaughtered your fair share of beasts and bandits, but if you think you’ve done everything there is to do in the glorious open world of Wild Hunt, think again, because it turns out, Geralt knows a thing or two about extreme sports. You want evidence? Just check out our five top clips below.
Geralt the cliffdiver
Cliff diving is a sport reserved for the fearless, and Geralt of Rivia is certainly no coward. Not only does he brave the snowy mountaintops in full battle gear, he’s also plunging into what must be some pretty arctic waters. Watch him descend towards certain death with casual nonchalance, only to hit the water with a gentle ‘plop’ and swim away like nothing happened.
Geralt the snowboarder
When the good people at Projekt Red built The Witcher 3, we don’t expect they saw it being used as a snowboarding sim. They obviously didn’t reckon on Gracjan Krawczyk, who discovered that if you find your way up into the mountains of Skellig, you can slide all the way down on nothing but your boots. Now, where’s the ski lift?
Geralt the vert skateboarder
Geralt’s impressive balance is on display again here. RockLeeSmile found a little half pipe in a waterfall and proceeded to do what any of us would do – take it on, Tony Hawk style. Do you want to see Geralt busting out some Christ Airs, McTwists and footplants to an intense MIDI soundtrack? It’s all in the video above.
Geralt the freerunner
Like Red Bull’s own Ryan Doyle, Geralt has proved himself as a capable freerunner too. Swap the lofty climbs of Machu Picchu for the rooftops of Novigrad, and you can explore to your heart’s content. Beware though, because glitchy dangers lurk around every virtual corner. If you need some help finding your way up onto the rooftops, just check out the video above for a few routes!
Geralt… and his flying horse
As virtual horses go, Roach is one of the most frustrating. While Epona is just tone deaf to every except one particular ocarina, as those who have sunk hours into Wild Hunt will testify, Geralt’s steed seems to do everything within his power to troll his owner, even in the most dire situations. But every so often, he conjures up a moment of pure genius. Jump to 2:58 for an example, as Geralt’s trusty steed channel his inner Pegasus and takes his rider on a magical journey… albeit one only a couple of feet off the ground.
