Jakub Grigar was born in Liptovský Mikuláš, Slovakia’s whitewater kayaking hub. By the time he started to emerge on the competitive scene he’d already spent a good 10 years on wild water and was soon collecting titles, awards and other good finishes.
He’s won the junior world championship twice and has a silver medal from the 2015 World Championships in London.
Jakub also introduced himsef to the Games in a big way by finishing fifth in the K1 in Rio in 2016, a year in which he also became U23 world champion. He added to this success in 2016 when he graduated from high school, meaning he could fully dedicate his time to training and competition.
In 2021, Jakub posted his first-ever ICF CSL World Cup win, brushing aside the field in the K1 class and then backing up that display with an impressive silver medal in at the Games in Tokyo.
