As a sports-mad child, from the age of eight Sándor Tótka was already spreading his enthusiasm across football, gymnastics, athletics and ballroom dancing. When he turned 10, he got into kayaking in the local town of Gyomaendrőd and immediately fell in love with the sport.
By the time he was 13, his competitive passions had been narrowed down to a straight choice between ballroom dancing and canoe sprint.
