R.LUM.R is that very modern phenomenon, a Spotify star. In 2015, his single Frustrated has clocked up 30 million streams with its spacious, beat-strafed and synth-illuminated take on RnB. Radio and packed live dates came later. But for the longest time, Reggie Williams was simply a man with an acoustic guitar and a more than average appreciation for John Mayer.
It was a chance writing session to scope out songs for Jason DeRulo and Chris Brown that led the one-time troubadour to his current, more alternative and electronic sound. In the process of writing for others, Williams discovered something new in himself, and R.LUM.R (pronounced ‘Ar-Lamar’) was born.
But the Florida-born, Nashville-based artist reconnects with his roots in this exclusive session, performing stripped-back versions of Frustrated and subsequent single Close Enough that showcase his classical guitar skills and distinctive falsetto. He conceived these acoustic versions for his new EP Alterimage, a raw reworking of his debut release – which is fitting, because the R.LUM.R moniker is all about connecting past, present and future.
