“I go along the coast of our beautiful country, driving for miles and hours to follow the wind.” Here are 11 things to know about a Lebanese Kite Junkie before going to Red Bull Ragnarok.
1- This is Roba Hamadani
2- Roba is from The South of Lebanon: Nabatieh District
3- She loves to discover her country in a different way, which is why her Kite Surf/Snow Kite hobby turned into her passion!
4- Roba started Kitesurfing 6 years ago: “It started as a hobby, I got hooked to it and it quickly became my addiction and changed my lifestyle until it became my every day thing.”
5- When the wind calls, nothing can stop her.
6- She is a full time Kit surfer with an IKO license and teaches at her kite surfing school: Kite Junkies.
7- She basically takes awesome trips around the world specially to follow the wind
8- So, what are Roba’s ambition?
“I want to spread this kind of lifestyle to every person that comes across me in life. To make people aware that kitesurfing is not just a sport, it is a lifestyle, it is a cure, it is peaceful, it is love, it is meditation, it is a way of life. You connect with the elements of nature; Water, Snow, Wind, Mountains - even birds and marine life.”
9- Roba believes Kitesurfing / Snowkiting allows you to travel the world differently
“It makes you connect with the nature of the countries you visit in a very magical and powerful way. You reach places you wouldn’t think of going to, you feel you are one with the universe.”
10- She wants to inspire people to follow their passion
“I want to inspire people to take a step forward into following their passion, connect with nature, keep it clean and beautiful, and bring awareness to the world that LEBANON is a beautiful country and has amazing Kitesurfing spots. Also encourage the Lebanese community to do something challenging in their life away from politics and social taboos. Inspire them to raise their kids differently. I believe that “what you heal in yourself, you heal for your entire family line.” And this is what our country needs. And I started with myself, I chose this lifestyle for me and the future generation who will be inspired by me.”
11- So why did she choose Red Bull Ragnarok?
“It’s the number one and biggest Snowkite competition in the world. It is the actual fight to finish 105 km across the mountain of Hardangervidda! It is my way to discover Norway and challenge myself through the cold and snow to reach the final point. I have been kitesurfing for 6 years now and this is my first time Snowkiting. I only started a month prior to the race to get used to the snow and cold. This is my first challenge in my journey with Red Bull. If I complete the race, this means anyone can reach any goal they set their mind into. All we have to do is believe and work hard. It is the way to a free soul.”
