Granted that is easier said than done to remain healthy in Ramadan, here is our list of must-have grocery items for the holy month.
1. As your day progresses while fasting, your levels of essential vitamins and nutrients including A, B, potassium, iron, and magnesium will drop. DATES will replenish your levels and provide you with the strength needed to carry out the day following breaking your fast.
2. FRESH VEGETABLES are naturally high in fiber and will aid in digestion and sleep so make sure to include them in your shopping list. Great examples are broccoli, green peas, okra, carrots, and spinach.
3. Try to incorporate BROWN RICE into your main dishes at Iftar rather than other high – carb options. Brown rice is slowly absorbed into your blood stream which will control blood sugar levels and help avoid a crash in the evening time.
4. It is typical to crave sugar following Iftar but it is essential to resist the temptation of processed sugars. Instead, stick to FRESH FRUITS that will hydrate your blood vessels and muscles and help in a gradual rise of glucose levels.
5. It is necessary to drink WATER because of the long hours of fasting and the high temperatures. Water plays a pivotal role in organ function so make sure to have plenty of water at home.
