When large winter swells brew off the West Australian coast, surfers in Indonesia rub their hands with glee, knowing that a week or so later, they're in for waves. For many, this means the tried-and-tested drive-ferry-drive routine to get to a little village called Banko Banko, known in the surfing world for its insanely long and perfectly formed reef which rolls the incredible waves of Desert Point. Although the spot can be an overcrowded clown show these days, local lord Usman Trioko surfs DP as if the masses aren't there and spends hours every week parked deep behind the foamball. As for Chris Ward, he just does what he wants in among the chaotic pack, and that seems to work out just fine for a surfer of his abilities.
