The atmosphere was already explosive at 2pm in the afternoon as thousands of street dancers gathered at the AccorHotel Arena in Paris for Juste Debout 2018. The hall then vibrated to the sound of hip-hop music until late at night and the energy of the collective dance world could be felt in the whole place. At the opening of the finals, Red Bull BC One All Star Neguin and former Juste Debout champion Kyoka offered the crowd an unprecedented performance, combining the strengths of two masters from different styles.
The champions of Juste Debout 2018
The high-level jury, consisting of Rashaad, Tash, Ricky Soul and Dedson, judged the competitors in terms of musicality, technique and individual style. Every round the decisions got tougher, as we were closing in on the final battles. At the end of the night the following teams and dancers prevailed and took home the title.
- Niako & Icee (Hip-Hop)
- Greenteck & Nelson (Popping)
- Banacongo (Locking)
- Serge & Kwame (House)
- Misha (Experimental)
- Miyu (Junior Dance Tour)
This year the popping battle caught the attention of the entire crowd. Stylish, sophisticated and in perfect harmony with the music, the duo of Greenteck & Nelson won one of the most prestigious titles of the day to a thunder of applause.
Check out the cyphers
At Juste Debout the action is not only on stage. The community comes together and exchanges their dance in so-called cyphers, where competitors and members of the crowd dance without the pressure of the battle. It's in these cyphers where you can feel that the medium of dance really brings people together, irrespective of race, faith and politics. In these cyphers everyone is free to be the truest version of themselves without worrying about anything except the moment.
