When Dutch purveyors of “pan-tropical future bass” SKIP&DIE recently performed in Cape Town, they decided that the usual combination of gig/hotel/return flight was not for them, so they embarked on an eye and ear-opening adventure in the country of frontwoman Cata.Pirata’s birth.
During their 2015 South African Tour, SKIP&DIE dedicated time between shows to run workshops and recording sessions for NGO Young in Prison's post-release program in Johannesburg and Cape Town.
The recently released youngsters were given the opportunity to get involved in a pro-active creative music program to inspire their way back into society. Having got involved in a hands-on session making instruments out of scrap material, the fledgling musicians then got the chance to put their past experiences to powerful use as they recorded the track Rising Up! at Red Bull Studios Cape Town with both SKIP&DIE and local hip-hop legend Jack Parow.
Check out how this unique collaboration came about in the short film A Journey Of Sounds in the player above or on Red Bull TV.
