Heading into the weekend, the stage was set for an extremely tight title fight in both championships. In the men's, it was between Canadian Scott Croxall, American Cameron Naasz and Austrian Marco Dallago. On the women's side, the showdown focused on the USA's Amanda Trunzo and local favourite Jacqueline Legere.
Leading into Saturday, Legere held two back-to-back championships and was looking for the third. With wins at the first two events of the season, Trunzo came into the race with a huge lead in points and only needed to make the semi-finals in order to clinch the championship title – a feat she easily accomplished. Trunzo went on to take both the event and championship wins in the final round, a heat that Legere failed to qualify for after a bone-crunching crash in her semi-final.

On the men's side, a decisive semi-final heat proved to be what determined the World Championship title. All three title contenders – Scott Croxall, Marco Dallago and Cameron Naasz – plus Kyle Croxall squared off, with Dallago and Naaaz going down in the BF Goodrich Traction Corner, opening the door for the Croxall brothers to make it through. Come the finals, the Croxall brothers took each other out on the same corner and Luca Dallago went on to claim the event win – his second of the season – and steal the overall third place from his brother, Marco.
After clinching the championship, Croxall was clearly in the mood to make the most of his glory. "I'm going to celebrate this big time," he said, speaking in front of the big home crowd in Edmonton. "I'm excited. I'm really happy to take that world championship back."
