Born and raised in Southern California, Rose picked up golf at age nine and quickly emerged as a standout talent.
As an amateur phenom, Zhang made history in 2020 by winning the US Women’s Amateur at age 17, then went on to spend a record-setting 141 weeks atop the Women’s World Amateur Golf Ranking, securing the prestigious Mark H. McCormack Medal three years in a row (2020, 2021, 2022). She captured the US Girls' Junior in 2021 and College golf’s individual NCAA Championship in both 2022 and 2023—becoming the first woman ever to win back-to-back NCAA individual titles. Along the way, she shattered scoring records, including at Pebble Beach’s Carmel Cup and Stanford University’s program mark, surpassing even Tiger Woods in Stanford wins with 12 collegiate victories in just 20 events.
Zhang officially turned professional in May 2023 after her second NCAA championship. Just nine days later, she became the first LPGA Tour player since 1951 to win in her professional debut, capturing the Mizuho Americas Open in dramatic playoff fashion. Her second LPGA title came at the 2024 Cognizant Founders Cup, where she rallied down the final holes to seal another tour victory. Beyond individual success, Zhang has also proudly represented the United States on the largest stages – competing in the Solheim Cup in both 2023 and 2024, and making her Olympic debut at the 2024 Paris Games.
Despite her meteoric rise, Zhang remains grounded, continuing her studies at Stanford while embracing her role as an inspiration to the next generation of golfers. With natural star power, competitive poise, and a growing global fanbase, she is emerging as golf’s brightest new star – bridging the sport’s storied traditions with its future.
