Grassroots racing gets turbocharged. Red Bull Cut It brings custom-built lawnmowers, big personalities, and turf-ripping speed to the paddocks of New Zealand.
What is Red Bull Cut It?
Lawn mower racing is one of the most accessible – and one of the cheapest – forms of motorsport out there. But accessible doesn't mean not serious. Racers will be hitting speeds of up to 80kmph, with the drivers wedging themselves into their seats to avoid being bounced out of their machines. Think of it as a cross between go karting and motocross: mud, mayhem, and maximum torque.
What is the format of the race?
Racers compete in various classes across a purpose-built track packed with tight turns, wild straights, and unpredictable terrain.
In an exciting twist on the traditional lawn mower racing format, Red Bull Cut It will feature three separate events:
- Time trial – This will determine where competitors will place on the grid.
- Joker lap race – Each rider is allowed to use a shortcut once in the race.
- Le Mans Start, Dead Engine - Racers run to their mowers, start the engines, and drive off.
- Team Races - with pit stops.
