Throwing flips and bending the backs of ski tips in order hit the kickers switch, the young Jon - back in 1999 - was one of the pioneers of freestyle skiing. There are a few things that are always a reoccurring factor in Jon’s career and life: High demands on himself, and high demands on the people and things surrounding him. If things aren’t up to his standards, they will be switched out or improved for the better before you know it.
Ski competitions not bold enough? Then Jon founds his own, The Jon Olsson Invitational.
Ski goggles not creative enough? Jon launches Ynic Eyewear to revolutionise the market of eyewear.
Travel bags making travel a pain in the a**? In comes Douchebags.
Some say you have to work with what you get, but that's not true. You work with what you make.
With a Winter X Games medal stash totalling in the double digits, and several new- invented tricks he has not only pushed himself to the limits but has pushed freestyle skiing into what it is today. The Swedish Freeski legend has continuously gone above and beyond in everything he does throughout his life, all while inspiring people to dare to do their own thing as well. And the examples are many.
The first year of his own film, photography and ski competition the ‘Jon Olsson Super Sessions’, Jon decided to add a ski box to his Lamborghini, wrap it in snow camo and take it out on the snow. There was some talk; A sports car on snow? With a ski box? In Camo? As always with innovative ideas, there were haters. But boy was that car on everybody’s tongue.
Jon has always had to deal with haters to some extent, but that's just part of the game. If you have no opponents, you have nothing to stand up for. And Maybe, just maybe, the camo pattern has ever since been a symbol for his individuality, resourcefulness and unstoppable determination. The camo pattern is now an iconic design in his life, decorating everything from ski clothes to his summer mansion in Marbella ‘Casa Camo’. Showing everyone that rules are there to be broken and that going your own way despite the naysayers will ultimately result in success.
Back in 2007, two years after Youtube started, Jon got tired of ski movies only dropping once a year. Why not show the world a more raw and personal side of skiing? Once again Jon questioned the norms and did his own thing. Together with the Åre local Crill Jon started vlogging long before it was a mainstream thing. Some of his younger fans might not realise that this guy has spent just as much time vlogging on skis as he has been vlogging in luxurious houses and fancy cars. Hell, he's been active since before some of you was born!
After leaving the freestyle career, Jon decided to push himself in a new direction of Alpine skiing. He dedicated himself to qualifying to the Olympics in Slalom. However, he had to see defeat after a knee injury put an end to his professional ski career, but that did not put him down for long. Vlogging continued, and after re-arranging his lifestyle, he was now launching daily vlogs which entertained more than most others on the platforms. Jon’s following quickly went through the roof, stacking up one million followers on both Instagram and Youtube in an astonishingly short amount of time.
Once again, he found a new trail to embark upon. Some would at the point of a severe injury pack their bag, go home and say lights out, goodbye. In Jon's world, the light switch doesn't even exist. The only way is up.
So that brings us back to why we’re all here...
