Spring vibes, snow melts and surprise winners: Red Bull Homerun was on fire
Here's all the ins and outs, winners and a couple of camera snaps from the 14th edition of Red Bull Homerun in Åre, Sweden.
Red Bull Homerun 2025 was one of extremes - the day offered the bluest bluebird skies ever seen, and the course had the least snow ever witnessed. As Red Bull Homerun descended upon Åre, Sweden, for its annual Easter takeover, the vibes were high and the temperatures even higher. Sun pits, sunscreen, and sunglasses were everywhere on the mountain, and pond skimming became the latest and greatest activity - well, after Red Bull Homerun, of course.
For the 14th time, Red Bull Homerun gathered 500 skiers and snowboarders at the top of Åreskutan before unleashing them down the hill. First, the racers had to tackle a sprint - snow obstacles included - before jumping into their skis and snowboards and hurtling themselves down the mountain. First one down wins. This year, two first-time participants, Arvid Gustavsson and Vildis Edwinsdottir, took the win in the snowboard category, while seasoned competitors Emil Nyberg and Ella Larsson claimed victory in the ski division.

New Course, Same Chaos
Fourteen degrees, blazing sunshine, and unbeatable spring vibes are all great… until you're trying to host a ski race. But no worries, Red Bull Homerun threw on its shades and joined the party by rerouting parts of the course. To give the participants the best possible experience, the finish line was moved further up the mountain, and the crowd had a perfect spot to soak up the sun while cheering on contestants from in and around Timmerstugan.
In a way, the new course actually upped the excitement. It meant three things suddenly mattered more than ever: a strong run at the start, nailing that first big turn, and optimising your glide. It definitely shook things up among the top contenders - and opened the door for some surprise winners. Which is exactly what happened.

Freshers Take the Win
No fewer than two complete Red Bull Homerun beginners claimed top spots this year, both in the snowboard category. Vildis Edwinsdottir made Iceland proud as she ran, shredded, and scootered her way to victory.
“My tactic today was to run as fast as I could in the beginning, and whenever I lost speed on the track, I unbuckled my snowboard and scootered along as fast as I could,” Vildis said. She came prepared: “I waxed my board twice and mentally got ready to run fast.” She also brought a full cheer squad, which definitely helped.
Arvid Gustavsson from Uppsala started with the same tactic, run like hell, but had to improvise after getting stuck further back in the pack. “I managed to regain some time in the first couple of turns. But then I had the hardest crash in a turn, and after that, I just had to tuck and go. It feels unreal that I actually won!” he said. “I was so surprised when I crossed the line.”

Fastest Time of the Day
5 minutes, 13 seconds, and 13 hundredths - that’s how long it took to complete the 2025 Red Bull Homerun course... if your name is Emil Nyberg. The now two-time Red Bull Homerun winner narrowly squeezed past his opponent at the last second.
“I basically overtook the leader with 20 meters to go and had about a 2-meter lead when I crossed the finish line,” said Emil, a Sundsvall local. He also won last year’s race, yet again, with the smallest of margins. “I had the same tactic as always, to go all in on the run and then find the straightest way down. It feels so good, after that 5-minute grind, to actually take the win!”

For Ella Larsson from Åre, this year was redemption after narrowly missing the win last year. “It feels so good! It was really scary, but so worth it,” Ella said. Her tactic? Stay on her feet and avoid getting run into. “It was all about staying in control and gliding past everyone else. I slid past one of the girls out on course and had my suspicions, but I didn’t realize I’d won until I crossed the finish line and looked around. No other blue vests (the ones the girls wear) in sight.”

A Midsummer Party for All
This year’s winners brought the heat but they weren’t the only ones. Embracing the summer vibes radiating off the mountain, the undisputedly most summery squad on the hill was the “midsummer gang.” For the second year in a row, this crew took home the prestigious “Best Dressed” prize, awarded to whoever rocks the best outfit of the day.
We’re a midsummer party and everyone’s invited!
“We’re a midsummer party and everyone’s invited,” said Marcus Ahlström, alongside his crew William Larsson, Viktor Styrman and Alexander Rydén. “Last year we won as a ski lift, but with the weather this year, we had to go all in on the summer theme. Now it’s time to celebrate!”
