Having been pleasantly surprised by our skate experience there, we were all a bit sad to leave Lesotho.
The warm people and interesting spots made for a great time, but speaking of warm, we had one more destination on the tour: Namibia.
World-renowned for its sprawling and beautiful deserts, Namibia is also home to Windhoek, the capital city – and generally speaking, where there are people, there are spots.
Stepping off the plane was quite a shock as the hot air just seemed to engulf and dehydrate you straight away. December being one of the better months for weather in South Africa and Lesotho, it happens to be one of the hottest months for Namibia. The sun was relentless and most days it rendered the day unskateable – save for a few hours before sunset.
One of the main reasons we went to Namibia was to find the fabled mini ramp in the desert in Swakopmond. Armed with nothing but a name and the name of a coffee shop, we headed three hours into the desert, where miraculously we were able to track the ramp down and have an ace skate on some concrete transitions in the middle of nowhere!
